- Husband and father (married 25 years to Carol, and we have raised our
children – Teresa, Bryan and Christopher – in Pigeon, where I myself was raised)
- Ordained minister for more than 20 years; associate pastor
- Active community volunteer; helped organize local Habitat for Humanity projects, the Huron County Council for the Prevention of Abuse and Neglect (CAN Council), Thumbresources.org, and the Homeless Coalition in Huron County
- Avid hunter and sportsman
- Former union president and union negotiator
- Former principal/supervisor, Huron Learning Center, Huron Intermediate School
District, Bad Axe (Special Education Center, Early Childhood Programs, Programs
for At- risk and Services for Students with Behavioral & Emotional Issues)
- Worked at Huron Intermediate School District for 23 years all together, starting as a social worker
- Former college instructor and presenter for professional seminars and workshops

- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work and Psychology, Graceland University
- Master’s degree in Social Work (ACSW & licensed social worker), Michigan State University
